How it works
Choose your paper size: pick the size that suits your space, from a small keepsake print to a larger statement piece.
Fill in your details: a short form will ask for the date, time and location you'd like captured, plus any personal message or names you'd like included at the bottom.
Then, I paint the background by hand in watercolour, then digitally map your exact night sky over it, adding your chosen wording.
Once complete, I carefully packaged your one-of-a-kind star map and post it straight to your door.

Lauren Butland is the UK-based artist and writer behind The Celestial Archive, specialising in hand-painted astronomy-themed art. Blending a background in writing and a lifelong love of history with fine art, Lauren hand-paints each constellation before pairing it with original research into the myths and history behind the stars — creating pieces that are as much a story as they are a picture.

At its heart, The Celestial Archive is a history project blending art with the stories that fill our night sky. Discover hand-painted watercolour constellations, paired with carefully researched History Notes telling the stories behind each one.
Whether they were born from the depths of ancient civilisations, or recorded as recently as the 17th century, my aim is that you’ll leave with a fresh appreciation for the immense history we sleep under every night.

If I were inclined to make a bet, it would be that one of the first constellations you heard about was Orion. Something about that three-starred belt catches the eye – and if you follow the ancient Greek interpretation of the constellation, he would have liked that. Orion was, afterall, a show off.
