Workshops
Join us for an afternoon at Shop Small Studios in Hitchin where Lauren from The Celestial Archive will teach you how to paint the Orion constellation.
Orion is by far one of the most loved constellations above us, making this a beautiful way to celebrate a birthday - or simply yourself. Get to know the constellation like never before; while we paint we'll discuss the history and mythology behind this beautiful bundle of stars, while a herbal tea of your choice brews by your side. You'll take away your own hand-painted piece of the night sky, a detailed History Note on Orion and a mini easel to display your artwork at home.
Perfect for individuals, friendship groups and children over the age of 8 who are interested in the stars and their stories. No experience necessary.

The Celestial Archive
At its heart, The Celestial Archive is a history project blending art with the stories that fill our night sky. Discover hand-painted watercolour constellations, paired with carefully researched History Notes telling the stories behind each one.
Whether they were born from the depths of ancient civilisations, or recorded as recently as the 17th century, my aim is that you’ll leave with a fresh appreciation for the immense history we sleep under every night.
Through The Reading Room, I share researched historical articles, while the shop offers original artworks, prints, pocket constellations, and Keep & Frame greeting cards – art designed to be both meaningful and enduring.

If I were inclined to make a bet, it would be that one of the first constellations you heard about was Orion. Something about that three-starred belt catches the eye – and if you follow the ancient Greek interpretation of the constellation, he would have liked that. Orion was, afterall, a show off.
